Newbie question, I guess.

What exactly do the "Input Monitoring" and "Auto Input" settings do?

Welcome mikefrankemusic,

'Input monitor' will reproduce the input audio, or whatever is being recorded, directly to the output, so that you can monitor it through headphones.
'Punch' will automatically start recording when the playhead is within the punch points.
'Auto Input' allows you to Input Monitor only when the playhead is in the punch points and off when outside, so you can hear the underlying track except when recording.
