Recording with iTrack Solo

Post by mkt987 »

I have an iTrack Solo and want to use it to record guitar and vocals with Multitrack DAW running on my iPad.

When I create a new song in MDAW it assigns 48 kHz / 24 bit to the song. But the user manual for iTrack Solo says that operation with iPad only supports the following sample rates for IPad operation:

44.1 kHz / 16 bit
48 kHz / 16 bit
24 bit audio available on playback only with iPad

Based on the above info about the Solo's capabilities, should I assign 48 kHz / 16 bit when I create a new song in MDAW or should I leave it at the default 48 kHz / 24 sample rate?

Thanks in advance.

I think that unit will support 24/96 on apple devices, you might want to use floating point (32f) project format in multitrack. If you make a 96 kHz project and load it, the lower left popup should show the actual samplerate that the hardware negotiated. This could be a good test to see if the higher samplerates are supported. Unfortunately the bit depth can't be tested like this though, multitrack simply requests a hardware floating point format for all projects, and then converts to the project format on the fly. I always go with 32f format because it gives an actual 25 bits of precision (one more than 24 bit), and clipping is basically impossible. Hope this helps!

So when creating a new song should I just select 32f bit and 96 k and let my hardware (iTrack Solo) tell Multitrack DAW how much to downscale these settings?
