Yes, it will be an open source library (none of that proprietary crap, not going to mention names... ahem... rewire... ahem...) So the success of the feature will depend upon acceptance, we will try to make it as easy as possible to use for developers with no fees/control complexes/hidden agendas/nda's to sign, and hopefully all those involved will profit.

Will the next release include support for external microphones via the Camera Connection Kit? I have a Blue Snowflake that works with the voice recorder apps but not recording studio apps.

Thanks! It's not done yet though, we still don't know if it's possible for real-time work, all the methods I've tried so far for interapp communication have not panned out. In the worst case, though, for what we are trying to do (play in one app and record the output in another) it doesn't need to be real-time. The audio packets could be time stamped and could them take their sweet time to get back to the recorder app, where they could be reassembled into the stream again. Heck we could even use the global pasteboard for that (sort of an automatic copy and paste). But this is not as flexible as a rewire type real-time system, which allows for routing to effects and back, etc.
