iAudioInterface

Post by jorgren »

Thanks to Agent36 for finding this. It's a serious calibrated microphone, line input, and high quality headphone/line output for iPod Touch and iPhone (not iPad). You could make serious studio-grade recodings with it in MultiTrack. They also have audio measurement software for engineering work.

Connecting your guitar

Post by jorgren »

Here's a good discussion on the subject:

It also includes the first photo I've seen of the simple KVCOnnections cable (KV neglects this on their site), which I am ordering for general purpose experimentation. I've attached the photo here.

Guitar interface - coming soon?

Post by jorgren »

EDIT: Ground Up Audio tells me the cable will be active. Probably the first release of the app will not record, but likely an updated version will.

Here's a decent discussion on why impedance and levels are important for a guitar interface:

Here you go.

Personally, I think the hardware looks promising, assuming they release it. The software, without record capability is just another me-too toy. But when they add recording and copy/paste, it'll make a nice sound source for your Multitrack DAW projects.

Griffin GuitarConnect cable

Post by jorgren »

EDIT: Per email responses from Griffin and Frontier Design, the cable is passive, and the app does not offer record capability, so, sadly, there's nothing to see here.

Sorry the details are so sketchy. I can't tell whether this is active or passive; I'll ask Griffin. This press release also mentions a new version of a popular app, which might let you record your guitar with FX, then export to Multitrack DAW. Details on that are also very sketchy. Again, I'll inquire about it.

Nashville, TN — June 4, 2010

Griffin is setting up shop at Bonnaroo to offer attendees a host of useful accessories to keep their iPods, iPhones, and mobile devices going during the festival. The Griffin tent, located in Centeroo, will be stocked with staple charging accessories at special show prices, including PowerBlock, PowerJolt, TuneJuice, Reserve batteries, and even spare AA and AAA batteries for the various power needs festival-goers will encounter.

Griffin employees will also be giving Bonnaroo attendees a sneak peek at the new Griffin GuitarConnect cable made especially for apps like iShred Live, an updated version of the popular virtual guitar app from Frontier Design Group. This new version of the app now supports use with live instruments and will be available in conjunction with the GuitarConnect cable in July. GuitarConnect plugs any guitar, bass, or 1/4" plug-equipped musical instrument into an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, for use with apps that support audio input. The cable includes a separate 1/8" line-out jack for easy connection of headphones or amplifiers....

USB Guitar Cables

Post by jorgren »

EDIT: Per an email from HOSA, the HOSA cable does offer 44.1 KHz recording, and therefore should be compatible with Multitrack DAW and other popular apps.

Here is an option that should work with all the iPxxx devices (even the audio-challenged iPad). I will post updates as they arrive, for example I don't know that every device works at 44.1 KHz sample rate, mandatory for our platform. Any of these will require the Camera Kit.

This one would need another layer of adapter for the mini-USB:

Finally the correct dock extender has been built!!!

Post by jorgren »

I can't believe it took this long for somebody to come out with a dock extender so I can use my Belkin TuneTalk (or any other docking port device) AND my earbuds AND my Otterbox case! It has all 30 pins, and it comes in a SLIM version for Otterbox.

EDIT: Thanks to scottfar (see page 22 of this thread) for pointing out that ValueOutfitters has disappeared, and finding a new source:

Agent36

are you playing RiotFX amps&cabs both through the guitarbud cable? i noticed we are buying similar applications and rating them completely opposite and im confused why our opinions are so different on these applications... it must be our direct input interfaces...

im using a home-made impedance buffering cable that is shielded with DC blocking.

if youre using the guitarbud cable, are you experiencing tone sucking?

i felt riotfx's signal was far too hot, but you didn't mention that in your review...
