Can I clear out 'Shared' audio ?

Are the files in the 'Shared' tab in 'Bins...' actually used in projects, or are they just the initial file resulting from a copy/paste operation ? eg: If I delete them all, will I lose sections of audio from my projects ?

Yes, all song audio is contained in each songs folder, so the Shared folder can be cleaned out. You can use iTunes File Sharing to select them all and hit the delete key, or from within the app itself on each one you want to delete.
