I'm interested in buying a small (8-track) mixer to record into MultiTrack on iPad. I'm thinking of buying one of the Alesis MultiMix8 USB mixers, as that would cut down on clutter, saving a separate USB sound card. From my reading, the Multimix claims to be class-compliant, so *should* work? A couple of questions for those of you more experienced with these devices:
1. Am I right that I can only get two tracks at a time recording into iPad through a USB audio interface, and thus have to mix outside the iPad to record live?
2. Anyone used the Alesis Multimix or other USB mixers, and can confirm its compliance with the iPad USB kit?
3. Is there any better solution for mixing into MultiTrack on iPad?
Thanks for the great software and forum.

Re: Mixer for iPad?
I just bought the Allen and Heath Zed10FX. Class compliant USB, and it works great.
It isn't particularly light - but it does have a built in PSU, so no wall wart.
FX are useful for vocal monitoring.

Re: Mixer for iPad?
That's good to hear - hopefully the USB implementation is the same. The A&H is a bit pricy for the amount I'd use it. The Alesis is $159, and I have a 20% coupon that expires on the 15th, so I may go for it and report back. The other option would be a non-USB mixer and running the mix through a known compliant interface.
Now I just have to get my hands on a camera kit - apparently, there are massive production shortages.
