Help needed with MTDAW on iPhone 13 with Tascam Portacapture X8

I think I have all the correct cables, and my iPhone is reading the Tascam X8. But the tracks are not recording , possibly because the X8 input tracks are not properly selected to match the input tracks in MTDAW. Although I’ve tried all the combinations I can think of. I’m wondering if anybody has had a similar problem and can help me with this. I’m also unable to get the metronome on MTDAW to record with the X8. Thanks for any help, Tom.

One thing to check first if that 'microphone permissions' has been granted access to the microphone, check in the iPhone Settings app -> Apps -> MultiTrack -> Microphone -> ON. Without this setting, it will just record flatlines. Other than that, I can't think of anything that would prevent recording, as long as signal is present on the input it will get recorded.

The Metronome wont be printed to a track when recording, the idea is that it can just be separately enabled for play or record. However I see that it might be useful to print to track, for exporting to other software. A quick workaround could be to print a simple drum app highhat or similar to another track, I would use digistix AUv3 or similar on the input of a track to provide a constant time source, arm that track and record it for the full song, and then export all the tracks. Thank you for your reply. I did check and the mic is on in my iPhone MT settings. So I'm still searching. And thanks for the idea and information relating to the metronome. That does seem like an easy work around that I will try when I figure out what I'm doing wrong regarding the recording of my inputs from the X8. Thanks again...

I think I finally figured it out.... The first thing to do is to select tracks 1-2 on input on the Tascam X8 and select stereo which somehow connects the X8 with MTDAW for recording the different inputs.

Hmm, I'm not familiar with this Tascam, but in multitrack check the IN button (on the track, next to the Arm button), the list should include all the sources grouped in different configurations, for 6 inputs they should all appear separately in the Mono sources list, and the Stereo sources as should have 3 pairs of inputs for a device like that. For example, with this Zoom U-44 here I have lying around (only 4 inputs):
