Low input level

I bought an adapter from kvconnection to use for a mic input. When I plugged in the mic, I was getting a seriously low signal. I had to bump up the gain on the channel and output to hear anything really clear. Any solutions?

It mostly depends on the type of mic. When I tried the KV cable, it worked with a Shure SM57 dynamic mic, and also a battery powered audio technica omnidirectional. Neither of these mics require external phantom power.
