Multiple outputs?

Post by cgman »

Hello,

I've been reading up on the RME Fireface UCX. It looks like it is capable of not just 8 inputs but also multiple simultaneous outputs. The Tascam US-800 also looks like it has multiple outputs (though I'm not sure what the difference is between the line out and headphones).

Are multiple outputs (more than just a stereo channel) possible on the iPad?

It's is possible on the iPad, but I'm not aware of any apps that have more than 2 outputs yet.

i am desperately seeking a 8 track output playback app for the ipad...
(with 8 mono tracks or 4 stereo, or...) panning and volume adjustments.

so, if MultiTrack has 8 out in simultanously via USB, maybe there is the chance of having 8 output easily?

kind regards

Like many others, I am extremely interested in an iPad multitrack recorder app with more tha just 2 simutanious outputs. It has been indicated in this forum that the iPad is capable of this and we know there are many multiple-input interfaces available. If I knew the first thing about writing software, I would try writing it myself -- but since I don't, I am more than willing to pay for such an upgrade.

Please advise as to when multiple outputs for this app will be available. The sooner the better.

Frustrated,

It would be a great feature. However, the issue becomes routing, or mixing, setting up separate submixes for the individual outputs. Or, would it just be a surround sound output, with the 3D panning controls? These would be very nice features but unfortunately greatly increases the complexity.

I'm currently experimenting with adding inputs to Audiobus. This would allow multitrack to be inserted into the Input slot of Audiobus, by selecting a specific track to attach to. In multitrack, this track would then be muted, and its output sent to audiobus where a number of things could happen. For example, it could be sent to an effect app and back into multitrack. Or, it could be sent to possibly another (hypothetical) app the allows arbitrary output selection and has multichannel output support. This could solve it in theory anyway. No promises, but the implementation is looking pretty straightforward.

Pwnified,
Since there's already bus sends on the tracks, you could look into having the bus itself as an Audiobus input. Sounds exciting, but could be a pain in the butt to implement.

Just a thought.

Thats a good idea, I'm looking at this right now. I don't foresee any major issues. Thanks!
