Once a track has been recorded, is it possible to vary the volume level - so that in the final mix, parts of the track can be louder at certain times, or quieter, or can build or fall progressively in volume? I've found that I can't do this in Garageband and am searching for a better DAW!

Can noone tell me if this is possible? I'd really appreciate a comment.

Re: Varying track levels
You can fade in at the beginning of a region and fade out at the end of a region. You can also slice regions and copy and paste them onto another track rail or rails. You can then adjust the volume for each track. If you need to free up space with all that pasting, you can then bounce all the regions onto one track, creating one track with varying volumes. That's one possible workaround.

Thanks for that. It's exhausting just reading about it. It seems such a basic requirement for any reasonably professional mix, even for something as simple as a narration and backing track. I'll think some more about this...
