I swear I've answered this question for myself before, by searching this forum, but, sorry… here goes:
I want to take an imported stereo track and split it, one track for left, one for right. I want to split the track once it's already in MT DAW. I've done this before, and as a matter of fact, I think I've accomplished it for the left, but everytime i paste my right side to its new track, it's empty. What I've been doing is: pan track to whichever side you want, enable rec on the new track, copy & paste. Am I missing something here? Thanks!

Re: Splitting a stereo track
I'm not sure enabling record is necessary though, but I'm guessing you are trying to copy from a stereo track to two mono tracks.
We still have to deal with the "copy" bug.
You have to pan your track. Select it, (and a snippet of silence on another track).
You have to select the snippet of something on another track, or the "copy" function will not apply any channel strip functions like pan, eq, comp etc. (this is a bug that will hopefully be fixed sometime before iOS 9 hits)
Then you can add a track, and paste, and you should get a stereo track with audio only on the left side.
Repeat for the right side.
I believe you may have to pan the snippet to the same side. Not sure.
Well I just tried it. I did it successfully, but it appears I have to paste to a stereo track for each side.
I ended up with:
Track 1 = short snippet of silence.
Track 2 = stereo track. (imported)
Track 3 = stereo track (signal on left only)
Track 4 = stereo track (signal on right only)

Re: Splitting a stereo track
I'm sorry. Actually what I'm trying to do is create two mono tracks, one with the sound from the left of my original track, and one with the sound from the original stereo track's right side. Like, for example, if I wanted to make a new recording with the left and right sides switched. Thanks so much for your time!
