Recording live using the bose t1 tonematch/using imovie

Post by Tejay71093 »

Hi, I'm brand new to this app. What I'm trying to do is use my bose t1 tonematch to record myself playing guitar and singing via the usb connection. I want to mic my guitar with a condenser mic and sing into a seperate mic, both going into the mixer then via usb into the ipad mini. I'll set all the effects and levels on the mixer and just record onto one track. Is that doable? Also I want to record video on my iphone simultaneously and then dump both the audio and video into imovie and synch them. Is there a way to dump the finished audio file into imovie from my ipad mini without using a computer? (I don't own a computer, just an ipad) thanks in advance for the help!

Also, would I be able to record the guitar and vocals on seperate tracks?

As far as DAW's go, MT DAW is one of the easiest to use, and yes you can record onto separate tracks as long as your USB device supports 2 (or more) audio channels out. The manual for the Tonematch says the usb is for updating the firmware of the device and backing up scenes so it might not be able to.

As far as the video on iPhone and using iMovie to import the audio is a great idea and should be easy to do if you use iTunes for file management. Video can create some very large files though. Best to do this one song at a time to keep it simple and not bog down your iPad/iPhone. Use the audio from the iPhone as an alignment guide when placing the audio from the DAW, then kill the original audio track from the video.

Actually it would be great if you would try it out and let us know if you were successful with the recording part. I haven't seen any posts to confirm if anyone has done this.
Do you have an Apple Camera Connection Kit? That is usually needed to get a USB device to communicate to the iPad.

I'll def post my results and let you guys know how it went. I'll probably just mix the vocals and guitar with the T1 and just record the track dry (adding the effects etc with the t1). I found an app called icab which is a search engine that will allow me to download the audio from soundcloud right to my ipad. I'll probably just download the audio once finished and open both files in imovie and synch it up (or attempt to anyway).

good luck tejay.
Give the reverb in MT DAW a try. It is one of the best sounding reverbs on iOS. No complex modulated tails or any of that stuff though. Just simple and clean reverb.

@martygras, thanks for welcoming new members!

@ TeJay71093: unfortunately it looks like the iOS video recorder will interrupt multitrack recording when switching to it.

@pwnified I'm going to use the DAW on my ipad mini and use my iphone to record the video. Then harmonicdog-->soundcloud-->imovie (via the icab app to download the audio from soundcloud) then open the vid in imovie and synch. Not positive it'll work but I'm hoping to try tomorrow

Ah, in that case you should be able to bypass the whole soundcloud song and dance, and just "Open in" from multitrack directly into imovie :D
