Hi there,
I couldn't find anything for this in my search and was hoping someone out there could please help.
My wife takes the laptop to work and I use my iPad for recording. I use an iRig with amplitube for guitar or straight into GarageBand. I also use Multitrack DAW and find it to be excellent, but have so far only used it for taking synth and piano type stuff from GarageBand and playing around with it.
Now I'm not up to speed with VSTs and plugins. When I started playing guitar a Fostex four track was the best you could hope for recording wise, so the iPad is a godsend for getting ideas down and making demos.
What I want to be able to do is take the two outputs from my Alesis DM10 edrum kit and just be able to record stereo on either GarageBand or Multitrack DAW. at the moment, I use a splitter onto one stereo jack and into the iRig, but because it's designed for guitar it is only a mono output and mono recording. The outputs from the DM10 are standard 6.35mm 1/4" jacks, one for left and one for right.
I was thinking of getting an IO interface type thing to allow me to do this, but many of them don't say on the websites if they allow stereo recording. Maybe they all do and that's a given.
Does anybody else here record to iPad without the need for huge amounts of kit? What should I use for best results?
Many thanks for your help.
Neil

Re: Recording onto iPad 4 lightning connector
Welcome to the forums Neilfatmonkey.
I have several edrums and run them all into a small mixer which has its stereo outputs attached to my Alesis IO Dock inputs. I also use the midi jacks on the IO Dock too.
Or...
I also have an M-Audio Uno midi interface which allows me to connect my midi output from the drums into an Apple Camera Connection Kit and then into the iPad.
Exporting tracks to MT DAW from Garageband is great for getting that extra bit of mixdown quality that you can't get from inside Garageband. You can compress each track individually, do some corrective eq-ing and add some of MT DAW's excellent reverb to your mix. I use Garagebands metronome or simple beats to write the piece, then export to MT DAW and replace the drums with external drums directly into MT DAW.
(I'm not a big fan of the iRig to tell you the truth.) Upgrading to something that uses the 30 pin connector will get you way better results.

Re: Recording onto iPad 4 lightning connector
Hey there,
I use the Lexicon Omega. It's about $140 and gives you 4 mono inputs, or two stereo inputs for simultaneous recordings in MT DAW. I then have a Lightning Camera Connection Kit made by SHARK for about $15 that I plug my Lexicon into the USB port. Open up MT DAW, start a new track and select the inputs on each track (either Mono 1 thru 4 or Stereo 1+2 and Stereo 3 + 4).
It's the least complex solution for me as I want to record from a 4 bus output on a 32 channel mixer.
So for you, simply plug your left and right into the 1 and 2 inputs on the back of the device, select the Stereo 1/2 option in MT DAW on your arm track input selector and hit record.
I believe the Alesis IO Dock has stereo input options as well.
Here is the Lexicon > http://www.amazon.com/Lexicon-Omega-Des ... icon+Omega
Here is teh SHARK > http://www.amazon.com/SHARKK-LIGHTNING- ... camera+kit
NOTE the shark does say "for picture files only" but this DOES work for connecting audio devices to MT DAW, I use this product myself and at half the cost of the official Apple device, it is highly recommended.
I really hope this helps you.
