Using 96khz 24bit input

Post by Browhigg »

Hi there

Anyone trying to use a 24bit 96khz input, and seeing these as red when going to the set up menu. The device is not connected, and when it is (M-Audio Quattro/Sport) it hangs the app. It could hang because of compatibility issues, which it fair enough.

Question is - why are these shown as red, even before the hardware is connected?

Help appreciated.

MultiTrack displays these buttons as red if the current hardware doesn't support the sample rate. It does this by asking the hardware for each one in succession and seeing if it actually got it. So, the default hardware (nothing plugged in) actually doesn't support 96kHz. When plugging in new hardware, it will query the new hardware. As it turns out, certain hardware can't handle this 'aggressive' querying. Not saying that's the problem with the Quattro, it could just not work with iOS.

If the hardware doesn't handle the requested format, all incoming audio will be converted to the requested format in software.

Many thanks for that. Makes sense. Technically the Quattro does do the high spec but I
uses ASIO drivers so likely to have IOS compatibility issues. Thanks again.
