Yeah, unfortunately there isn't a way to charge and also act as USB host, I don't think. To conserve battery, you can lock the screen while recording. With the screen locked, multitrack won't do any OpenGL rendering, and the backlight is off and that's a big power suck. So dimming the screen also helps.
