Phase reverse? And other comments

Post by rrossss »

Hi,
First off, I really like DAW so far, with one exception the virtual rotary knobs used on all the
effects take some getting used to. It would be alot more user friendly to just use sliders to adjust
effect parameters on a touchscreen. I know the classic apearance of rotary knobs look nice, but are not
the best choice for fine control.

Now for my main question. I am experimenting lately with the MS-Stereo recording technique.
Is there a way to copy a track and paste in in reverse phase, or other method os switching the phase
of a region or track?
That would nice to add a phase reverse feature to add as it can also be used to check stereo-mono
or other phase issues as well during mixdowns.

Thank for building such a great app I am very excited to have this available us.

Thanks for the comments, rrossss. I think the phase reverse idea is good. As of now, multitrack is not a binary wav editor, ie. all edits are done non-destructively. This may change, and if/when multitrack becomes a wav editor, it will have phase reversal options.

Unfortunately some guitar app developers use a phase reverse trick for stereo tracks because they think it reduces feedback, which has the problem of completely killing the tracks when played on mono playback systems. Yeah, that. I was considering putting in an automatic phase detection system, which would detect when inputs are out of phase and reverse them if needed. Do you think something like this would help?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
An automated phase detection system might be good to have, but it should alert the user of input phase issues and ask permission before fixing the problem. Otherwise someone like me who might purposely
want a use two identical but phase reversed signals entering (in a MS-decoder setup) would have my input signals messed with and that would be very annoying indeed.
