Export to iPod library

Post by boone51 »

I searched through the forum and couldn't find this topic anywhere before. I'm sure I'm just missing it, so forgive me if this is a repost. Is there a way for you to export a song so it's in the devices ipod/song library on the device? It would be nice if there was. Thanks to anyone who can offer any info.

I don't think that it's possible. Seems Apple might not want us using a back door to the iTunes library.

I thought the same thing, but when I asked (with my tongue planted firmly in cheek) what the folks at IKMultimedia suggested for a way to get a song from Amplitube into VocalLive they suggested exporting the full song and then importing from the music library. As much as it pains me to admit, that option IS in Amplitube. They still haven't implemented any copy/paste, but this functionality is in there.

Hi Boone.
The only way I'm aware of exporting from Amplitube is Via Itunes. You can't do it on the idevice. Once on your computer you can drag it into your iTunes library and sync to your iDevice.

On the iDevice importing from the iPod library is supported. MTDaw has this.

I've never come across an app that can export to the iPod library.

Molten, you're absolutely correct. I took the advice from IK and just opened amplitube. WHen I saw the export>Song option I let it go and assumed what they said about exporting to the itunes library on one device was accurate. I've clearly missed something there. I agree. I've never seen an app that could do this.

Im not sure why Apple doesn't allow moving files both ways on the device. The only guess I can come up with is an organizational one. Apple likes to keep things pretty so if you could fill your library up with willy nilly bits of sound data it would be an ugly mess and sort of acting like a copy paste buffer. Definitely not Apples intent for your iTunes music folder.

...or maybe they are just mean

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it was tied to the deals Apple cut with record labels either, but who knows. The copy/paste buffer you mentioned is obviously exactly what I'm trying to be able to do. I think Vocallive and a few other ik apps are fairly decent apps, but without copy/paste they're sort of dead to me. I've been pulling in audio using a computer, but would love to really cut that cord completely. It looks like I'll just have to hold onto hope that IK will implement copy/paste and continue to use my desktop as a go-between until they do.

Thanks for the replies.

I can't figure out why IK can't catch up with the rest of the app making world. It's more frustrating because I really like the sounds in AmpliTube, VocaLive, and SampleTank. I would particularly like to see SampleTank more functional as a recorder and sequencer. Their apps don't even play well with each other and the 8 track recorder (iPad) is almost useless, even when using the AmpKit LiNK. At least, when they talk about the next update, they're saying "very close" instead of "soon" (another tongue planted firmly in cheek).

I think the only app that can modify the iPod Library on the device is iTunes. It's unfortunate, directly writing the iPod Library would solve many of the problems with audio sharing that plagues the community.
A shared audio library would be ideal, similar to Amidio's ioLibrary.
