Audio Bus -- What works/What doesn't work

Post by Adam »

Wow audiobus is great on my iPad 4! However there are some issues you should know about:

* MT DAW won't show up unless I delete it and reinstall from the website (not from itunes). While it works fine when I get it running (I've done this a few times after Audiobus wouldn't recognize MT DAW, This gets old pretty quickly. Hamilton, would you please walk through the normal steps to bring up MT DAW in Audiobus, & let me know what I should be doing? I'm in MT DAW version 3.1.6.2. Here's what Audiobus support had to say in this situation:

Delete the app in question. (Note: If necessary, back it up first.)
Delete the Audiobus app.
Reboot your device.
Install the app, and Audiobus, wirelessly (not from iTunes).

If that solves the problem, you've had an old version of the app in question, or the Audiobus app cache needed updating. If that doesn't solve the problem:

Turn on Airplane mode.
Launch Audiobus
Put Audiobus in the background
Launch every other app
Go back to Audiobus to make music.

Before installing Jam Up & Jam Up pro, MT DAW wouldn't show up in Audiobus. I followed the first half of the directions above and it showed up and worked fine. I downloaded a bunch of Apps: Jam Up, Jam Up Pro, Sound Prism Pro, NLogSynth Pro, & Sir Sampleton. I had already downloaded Loopy HD, ThumbJam, & Funkbox prior to the current issues.

I have deleted Jam Up & Jam Up pro. I tried running MT DAW in Audiobus before reinstalling the Jam Ups, but it didn't show up. I didn't delete/reinstall MT DAW this time b/c that is getting old now that I have some songs saved on it.

* Next, when I try to load Jam Up Pro or Jam Up Lite they cause all kinds of mayhem, including 1) reversing the effect on v. effective off state; 2) frozen screen within Jam Up Pro and sometimes freezing all of audiobus; 2) screaming feedback (ick!). I do wonder if Jam Up's current implementation is causing MT DAW to crash, hence the experiments above.

* Everything else works fine. I'm informing Positivegrid & the Audiobus folks of this, too.

The current/Audiobus compatible version of Multitrack DAW is 3.2, so having the older version is the reason for it not being detected. The App Store seems to have some kind of issue with this particular update, as I and at least one other person had to manually search the store to install it. It never showed up in the normal updates list.

Thanks Dave. Yeah, I'll go ahead and reinstall. In the meantime, another question:

As I was clearing a few songs off the last version of MT DAW before deletion, I was using the WiFi portal to do it. I'm very used to this portal, so this problem is new to file naming in MT DAW. I tried to download individual tracks to paste into Ableton Live, but when I clicked download in the Wifi portal, I got this message:

Safari can't oopen the speficied address. Safari can't oopen "funkbox:%20Audio%20Output.wav?action=GetTrack&track-1&type=wav&bitrate-352800&fx=0" because OS X doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "funkbox".

Shall I rename tracks that are named with audiobus source specifiers?

Thanks,

Continuing Problems with MT-DAW upgrade to 3.2

Post by Adam »

Well, Drat. I've now downloaded MT DAW 3 times from my iPad. The version in the Details section says 3.2. I open it and it is recognized in audiobus. It also has the Source box under Fx that I think indicates version 3.2. BUT when I come back to the ipad a few hours later, it has reverted to 3.1___. What gives and how do I fix this? I don't know if I've turned the ipad off or rebooted, probably both since I've been troubleshooting. It appears I also don't know how to download the new version 3.2 correctly. Help with that would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

I know there is a problem with the App Store and updates, I'm trying to get some help from apple on this. Do you have a mac with the previous version (3.1.6.2), which is inadvertently getting synced onto the device?

That's exactly what I have.

So does it work to update multitrack in iTunes on the Mac? Due to the App Store update bug, you may have to search for multitrack to see the update button and get it to 3.2.

Dammit, I thought I fixed that. Yes, you need to rename the tracks to not have a colon (:) in them. You can do that in from the wifi page, by clicking a track name in the browser. Apologies for that.

I searched for MT DAW in itunes on the mac. On both the iphone & ipad apps listed, it shows that I've already downloaded this app, and so I can't do it again.

I do have a bunch of songs on both my itouch and my iphone. I assume somewhere along the line here your going to ask me to delete and reinstall everything. Today I'm going to transfer all of those tracks to my Ableton Live so I'll be able to take that step.

Thanks! As long as I can rename (for now) it will be fine. BTW, I'm really glad to see all the visibility MT DAW is getting on the Audiobus site. From reading their posts, Michael & Sebastian sound like good people to work with. I suspect that you are doing alot to make MT DAW the right option for them to go with, and I appreciate it.
