The first time you start MultiTrack, a default song is created in the root Documents directory entitled "Song" and this song is then loaded, so you start with a fresh song waiting to be recorded onto:
It is best to plug in headphones, and turn on the Input Monitor so that you can hear the microphone through the headphones. To turn on the Input Monitor, tap the Menu button and select "Input Monitor". But only do this if you have headphones plugged in.
Next you can arm a track by touching the button group on the track you would like to record onto, a large version of the buttons appears. This is where you can arm the track. Tap the large Arm button to arm the track. If you get a popup about granting permissions to use the microphone, make sure to allow access. Otherwise, nothing will get recorded except for silence.
This track is now armed for recording. Next press the record button in the toolbar and it should change to red:
All that's left to do is to start recording by pushing the play button:
To stop recording, press the play or record button again. If the mic is too loud, the input volume can be reduced by tapping the IN volume group.
You can also control the monitoring level of the track (without changing the input volume) using the tracks volume control. When the tracks volume control is used and the track is armed for recording, this volume control becomes the monitoring volume level.
The track can of course be muted entirely with the mute button, or soloed so that all other tracks are silenced.
The next track for recording can be subsequently armed and recorded onto, all while listening to the previous recorded tracks. First rewind by tapping the rewind button, arm the next track, and press record and play (both at once or one at a time):
Congratulations on recording your first song using MultiTrack!
