How difficult would it be to add volume and pan automation?
Maybe a tap on a track could open two large automation lanes below it, for volume and pan. Of the two, volume automation is obviously the most useful.
Then, perhaps in the menu there could be an option to 'show automation curves', which would then show automation lines superimposed over the waveform.
I can see that the touch controls would make it nice to also access automation using a new mixer page, but really a lot of people are probably more used to mixing with automation curves these days
