Zoom H4n
I'm having trouble recording to MT with my Zoom H4n as an audio interface connected through the camera connection kit. Every time I go to record, my iPad mic is the only thing picking up my guitar instead of the direct line through the H4n. Can anyone help me on this? I really like this app and want to use it as much as possible. Thanks in advance!

Re: Zoom H4n
We really need a bit more info to help you.
- Which firmware do you have on the iPad?
- Have you switched the H4n into Audio I/F mode?
If so, it should say "USB Audio I/F" in the H4n screen, and you should be seeing level meter activity in both the LCD on the H4n and the meters in MT.
- Are you getting any error messages?

Re: Zoom H4n
I'm running version 4.2.1.
I have switched it to Audio I/F mode without any error messages. The only sound it records is what comes from the microphone built into the iPad itself. I get a reading on the H4n that sound is coming through but when I record through MT it only picks up from the iPad mic. Any suggestions?

Re: Zoom H4n
I was able to duplicate your problem by connecting the Zoom directly to the Camera Kit.
Even though it doesn't complain about the device drawing too much power, the iPad is not accepting it as a legitimate USB device. Placing a hub (non-powered Belkin Desktop model) in the chain resolved the issue for me straightaway.

Thanks for your help! I'll give it a whirl with a powered hub.

Great, library9, glad I could help. Just to be clear, a powered hub isn't actually necessary, just a hub that properly reports itself as powered is enough. The link I referenced above has a list of several that are tested as working.

Re: Zoom H4n
I hope that this is the correct topic to which I should post this information.
I just wanted to add that I found yet another Belkin hub that allows an original model Zoom H4 to work without external power. I tried a bunch of hubs that I had at home and none worked. I went to an electronics store to try to find one of the hubs mentioned on this site and couldn't find them.
So, I took a chance on the Belkin F5U404-BLK which is labelled Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-Port Mobile Hub.
I got it working but it does require a very particular order of doing things. (Remember that my device is an H4 and not the H4n -- so things might be different with the H4n).
1) Turn on the Zoom H4 before it has been connected to anything. Navigate to the Zoom's Audio I/O meny but don't select 'Connect' yet.
2) Plug the Zoom into the Belkin Hi-Speed 4-port mobile hub (which does not need to be plugged into its power adapter)
3) Plug the Belkin hub into the camera connection kit and plug that into the iPad
4) Now press 'Connect' on the Zoom
Note that this is the only way that I would get it to work. I think that when you get to the Audio I/O menu this way that the Zoom must be supplying some power. If I don't turn the unit on then I get a warning about drawing too much power.
I hope that this helps someone.

Re: Zoom H4n
I have one of these, although in black (not white or brown)...
http://www.belkin.com/uk/IWCatProductPa ... _Id=472441
Plug in the H4N to the hub, hub to the CCK, and when the CCK is plugged in to the iPad the H4N powers up into a menu with 2 options (the second option is the audio interface option).
Doesn't need any other connections (needs batteries in the H4N though).
The only hoop to jump through is to ensure Multitrack DAW is not running (double click the home button and close it properly) when it's plugged in, otherwise it doesn't notice the new interface.
Plug your headphones into the H4N, and go into the menu to turn on monitoring to get lag free monitoring of your input, and remember, you can also plug in 1/8" stereo feed on the rear (which replaces the on board mics) if you need 'line in' (drop the mic level right down to avoid clipping).
grb.
+ anyone found a split extension 30 pin cable to allow the CCK and charge the iPad at the same time ?
