How to back up songs?

Looks like my iPod Touch 4G needs to be sent back to apple for repair as the screen is faded and flickering (not white screen). Anyways, I have a number of songs on that I don't want to loose. I was hoping back up is as easy as connecting to iTunes and running a back up. But I'm pretty clueless if that back up my DAW Multitrack songs and audio files?

My iPod crashed during an iOS update and I had to restore from backup in iTunes. All of my songs were restored, so it does work. Just to be safe, you can also download the songs to your computer via wifi. If your screen isn't working, I don't know if you can set up the wifi.
